The Saint Petersburg Ballet Theatre’s Prima Ballerina Irina Kolesnikova has embarked upon a new profession.

SPBT’s Prima Ballerina has mastered a new role – that of ballet mistress. She has been trying to impart her talent and experience to Ekaterina Geraskina, one of the company’s soloists; for a month and a half the two dancers rehearsed the part of Odette/Odile together. The premiere of Swan Lake with Ekaterina Geraskina in the lead role took place in the Hermitage Theatre in Saint Petersburg on 27th June. The ballerina will be performing the role on this stage throughout the summer. “I’m very satisfied with my pupil, she literally absorbs her teacher’s every word and movement and responds well from the outset”, says Irina. Geraskina is capable of thinking and this, in Kolesnikova’s opinion, is no less important for a ballerina than physical talent. Irina wants to reveal the ballerina’s own individual brilliance. Only time will tell whether Irina will continue with her teaching activities. However pleased she may be with her first teaching experience, Kolesnikova understands that a ballet mistress’s work is difficult, and what sort of emotional and physical demands are involved. Irina considers that “to combine this work with that of a ballerina is rather complicated, but it is nice to know that I have it in me to be a ballet mistress.”

Dear friends! We are pleased to announce our Swan Lake performance on 26.11.2022! Its will take place in St Petersburg at the CSC Arena accompanied by the orchestra. ⠀ We are waiting for the performance, tickets are already on sale.
